Brown trout genetics in the Boyne Catchment

A juvenile (1+ year old) trout sample was compiled and analysed for each of the tributary sub catchments illustrated in Fig. 1. Five separate genetic families were identified – one in the Mongagh and Kinnegad Rivers, a second in the Enfield Blackwater, Deel, Stonyford and Trimblestown, a third in the Knightsbrook, Boycetown, Skane and Kells Blackwater,  a fourth separate family (yellow) found only in the Kells Blackwater and a fifth in the Mattock.
